Introduction paragraph.

“What the heck is that noise?” was the thought that ran through my mind at five o’clock in the morning. It was my first dawn of being in the jungle with my grandparents. My folks thought that it was a great idea to let me live with my father’s Aztec tribe for an entire summer, that it would give me some insight. I, on the other hand, preferred to be a carefree young child who enjoyed their summer playing outside in the city; but I was overruled. Yeah it sounds cool in the beginning, but after a day with no cartoons or video games, it really takes its toll on a youngster. So there I was, in the middle of the jungle in a warm summer day. I was awoken by plenty of voices and tropical birds, with rays of sun peeking through the branches; talk about a good morning!

Narrative Introduction

BUZZ! The alarm clock sounds and once again she rushes into the bathroom to vomit while clutching her stomach in agony.  “What is wrong with me?” she asks herself as she rinses her face and prepares herself for another miserable day of physical training (PT) in the Army.  She usually has no problem getting through any of the physical tasks given to her, but lately she has had no energy and can barely manage the warm up routine.  She somehow managed to pass the quarterly PT test yesterday, but today, she is very dizzy and by the time she gets to work, she is in tears from the excruciating pain in her stomach.  She is immediately rushed to the hospital only to find out that despite all the years of being told that she would be unable to have children of her own, she and her newly wed husband had managed to conceive a child.

Intro to paper

As the sun sets an aura washes over a young lad and he is suddenly relieved. The weight that has been lifted from his shoulders bear no comparison. Yet even though this weight is gone he can sense that there is a long and troublesome road ahead of him. No one around him offers any help he must become the rock for those who need him more than he needs them. With that he makes a vow, no one should have to go through what it is like to lose a home. For the next four years he wandered about high school wondering what he would do with his future until he got to his government class and saw how passionate the teacher was and he then decided that the teacher's life had not been an easy as well. Once I found this out I decided that one way to help myself and others was to get on a much larger scale, not just volunteering but changing the way this nation runs.

Introduction To Paper-Matthew Ross

In this story you are about to read, you are going to learn about one of the most single devastating events to ever strike me, strip me of one of the things I hold closest to my heart and I devoted all my time into for a dream and thought was would be taken away in a few minutes. There I was laying on the ground in incredibly horrific pain gripping my knee as I yelled to the heavens. As I laid there a thousand different things ran through my head, as never being seriously injured in football I had no idea what was happening to me. It all started as a normal defensive practice for football, the only difference was that this was the first day after hell week and the first day of full pads and full hitting drills, so as it were we were all jacked and pumped to start hitting and tackling. As the whistle blew for the end of our water break we all made our way to our specific designations on the field, linemen went to the end-zone on the  far side of the field, defensive backs and linebackers to the 50 yard line each for of the respective drills designed for our positions my friend and I lined up against one another being some of the oldest and best hitters on the team we loved going head to head on one another. As we got into our stances the anticipation was so awesome, the feel of hitting someone else was the best feeling on the planet, imagine being able to take out all your frustration on someone and get praised for it.

I forgot to include why I chose my first option and how it led me to my major of Accounting. Being from a culture where the men are exceptionally dominant, I felt that the business world would be a great way to be a powerful strong woman. You are respected and are seen as an equal by the businessmen. My upbringing was very harsh being that I was always placed in submissive roles like working with the women to make food for the men, made fun of for not knowing English, etc. I think that's what allured me into the business environment, the respect you receive as a female in a high ranked position being equally ranked by your fellow workers.

Narrative Ideas

There are many things that I could talk about to explain why I chose my career path.  The prompt asks to explain the major event leading to the major choice, so my major is Business Communications, but I also have a minor in Child and Family Development which, combined will allow me to learn the skills to run my own child care business.  So here are my ideas:

1.       Number one on my list is the birth of my beautiful baby boy, Vincent.   At the time I was working as a Military Police Officer in Army in Alaska.  I was married, but had been told for years that I was unable to have children, so my husband and I were not anticipating any children.  When we found out, we were both very nervous to say the least, so I began working with the New Parent Support Program provided on base.  This taught me many things about infants and children.

2.       Another option is to write about my personal experience as a parent dealing with my son’s daycare and observing the need for better, more affordable care in the civilian sector.

3.       My third choice is caring for my son.  I really enjoy playing with and teaching my son new things.  It is just amazing how quickly little one’s can pick up on things if you just sit down and spend that quality time.  He has completely turned my world around and now I couldn’t imagine a day without.

4.       Something that inspired me to want to go into business I guess would be dealing with different leadership throughout both my civilian and military career.  In the military, your supervisor changes pretty regularly, so I have seen many different leadership styles and had many different bosses but there are also a lot of opportunities where you have to take charge and get things done.  I feel that I have the basic skills of leadership now and know a lot of what to do and even more what not to do as a leader.

5.       Another thing is my parents.  My mother has moved job to job for as long as I remember and still has not found a job that she is happy with.  My dad, on the other hand, started off that way, but quickly decided to start his own business.  He is now much happier and very successful.

6.       My mother used to take me to work with her when she was working at the Children’s Center for Nuero-developmental Studies (CCNS), and that’s where I learned the importance of early and multi-disciplinary learning especially in children with special needs.  That’s why I decided on Child and Family Development for a minor.

7.       One day, I went to pick my son up from day care after work and found him covered in hives, sleeping in his crib.  The daycare workers had not noticed and I had to rush him to the hospital.  Luckily he was ok but was later diagnosed with a milk allergy.  I believe that the fact that they did not notice my son’s rash was a consequence of having too many children to care for at one time and too many other tasks they were trying to get done for the end of the day which would both be reduced in a home childcare setting.

8.       Another reason would reason for my choice is simply to learn more about children in order to better understand my own son and make more informed choices as a parent.

9.       Another reason for the child care option is to be able to stay home with my son and ensure that he is receiving quality care.

10.   And finally, I just love working with children.

Paper Ideas

There has been several aspects that have led me throughout my life to where I am today.
  1. I care about the state of people in general around me like my friends and family so I felt that a major in Political Science would help me be able to help people and the nation on a wider scale.
  2. My losing my house due to the poor state of the economy in 2008 and my need to help fix it has also lead me to my major choice.
  3. My older sister goes here so that choice was already made for me, when it came to choosing what university I wanted to attend.
  4. The government class I took in High School really perked my interest in the government and how policy is made.
  5. The current state of affairs.
  6. Listening to my family talk about political issues without actually knowing the facts.
    1. This happened a lot at parties and when I think back on what was actually it is just dumb.
  7. My stepfather was also a big part of my decision to study political science because when he would speak of anything political he would talk about issues he knew about and would not try to convince you into changing your stance. He would only talk about the facts and the way things have played out thus far.
  8. People not knowing about the political arena today and how to change things was also a major part.
  9. The department at ASU is very good that was a bonus when choosing my major.
  10. Finally it is something that I am interested in.

Brainstorming Ideas

So being that I don’t really enjoy writing, I had millions of ideas come in my head for my narrative!
  • Write of the time I lived with my native tribe in Mexico for an entire summer because it really opened my eyes as to the diversity in the world and the struggle people live through. The day of my Quincenera and the rush of emotions I experience that day. A Quincenera is a festivity in Latin countries which includes a ceremony in a church followed by a party and marks the transition from child to woman. This occurs when the girl is 15, which in Spanish is pronounced quince.
  • When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother is my life and I don’t know what I would do without her. She is such a phenomenal woman and when this occurred, it really put a damper on my sisters and me.
  •  My family. Not my immediate family, more like my aunts, uncles, cousin, etc. We are a very big family with many different schedules and priorities yet we manage to gather every Friday night and all of Sunday for dinner and family bonding at my nanas house. We go to church, play sports, converse, and hang out.
  • The day that I met Travis Barker at Disneyland! It may not be of much importance to many but I love Blink 182 so when I saw him I just had to have my picture taken with him.
  • The trouble I experienced the first year I came to the United States. I was very sad and lonely in my elementary school due to the fact that no one wanted to be my friend since I had trouble speaking English. I was constantly teased by the American children for my verbal skills.

paper ideas

So the first idea of mine is to talk about the death of my grandma which really affected me because she was a huge part of my childhood and she had a huge influence on my character that I carry with me today. My second idea was that of cooking in middle school after school for a homeless shelter as that taught me that there are other people in greater need of help and in worse situations then me. Third I was thinking about writing about my constant moving almost every year of my childhood so I never really got established anywhere with a descent set of strong circle of friends really until high school. Fourth was an idea of talking about always hiking into the desert which would show my love for the wilderness. Fifth could be paper on my time in middle school which was a transition period for me because that was when I was starting my living in one place for a good amount of time. For my sixth idea I would write would about my experiences in football in high school and how that affected who I was and my friend circle. A seventh idea would be about how my girlfriend changed who I was and how I became close to her and started going to her for support and the development between us. Eighth is an idea about being an only child with no peers in life that wasn't my mom or other close family member but someone I could just talk to. Ninth could be about my life as a child of a single parent and the hardships we went through that makes me who I am. Tenth is an idea about a certain time in football on my varsity years as a junior and senior when I torn my ACL junior year and strove every day for a year to get ready again for my senior season.
