So being that I don’t really enjoy writing, I had millions
of ideas come in my head for my narrative!
- Write of the time I lived with my native tribe in Mexico for an entire summer because it really opened my eyes as to the diversity in the world and the struggle people live through. The day of my Quincenera and the rush of emotions I experience that day. A Quincenera is a festivity in Latin countries which includes a ceremony in a church followed by a party and marks the transition from child to woman. This occurs when the girl is 15, which in Spanish is pronounced quince.
- When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother is my life and I don’t know what I would do without her. She is such a phenomenal woman and when this occurred, it really put a damper on my sisters and me.
- My family. Not my immediate family, more like my aunts, uncles, cousin, etc. We are a very big family with many different schedules and priorities yet we manage to gather every Friday night and all of Sunday for dinner and family bonding at my nanas house. We go to church, play sports, converse, and hang out.
- The day that I met Travis Barker at Disneyland! It may not be of much importance to many but I love Blink 182 so when I saw him I just had to have my picture taken with him.
- The trouble I experienced the first year I came to the United States. I was very sad and lonely in my elementary school due to the fact that no one wanted to be my friend since I had trouble speaking English. I was constantly teased by the American children for my verbal skills.
I feel that one of the major things you should consider writing about the time you spent with the native tribe in Mexico. I feel like that is an important part of you and you really took an interest in everything you saw and everything you learned. The whole experience became a part of you and it sounds like you really connected with everything there. The other one I think you should write about is the trouble you had the first year you were here in the United States, not only does it tell more about yourself but also shows that you have a strong character and strong will to keep going and fighting forward. This is a good way to talk about who you are as a person and will show your readers the inner you.

Along with Matt I also feel that the time you spent in Mexico with your native-tribe should be the major topic of discussion in your paper. Also I know a little about Spanish culture and from what I have read and heard about a Quincenera it is supposed to be a major point in a young women's life so I think that would be interesting to read and write about. For a second idea I feel you should write about your mother and your struggle with the breast cancer she dealt with because there are so many books from the survivors perspective but not as many from those who went through the battle with them and how it affected their life.
ReplyDeleteI also think that writing about your time in Mexico with your native tribe. The struggles you went through as a woman have had emotional meaning to you, but in writing about them it will also reach out to your readers, especially other women, because even if it’s not to the same extent, most women still struggle with inequality and sexism even today. Your readers will be able to feel a connection which is a big deal in writing. Also the story about your mother’s struggle with breast cancer is a good choice because it will again reach out to many readers because the struggle with cancer is something that most everyone has or at some point will either struggle with it themselves or witness a friend or loved one go through it.
